They will use informal and formal strategies to make a collection larger or smaller.  Students will learn to verbally describe or demonstrate attributes of persons or objects, such as length, area, capacity, or weight.

Kindergarten

Students will develop number and operations skills through learning several fundamental concepts. Students will know number names and counting in sequence. Students will apply the principles of counting to make the connection between numbers and quantities. Students will use meanings of numbers to create strategies for solving problems and responding to practical situations involving addition and subtraction. Students will identify characteristics of objects that can be measured and directly compare objects according to these measurable attributes.

Grade 1

Students will develop an understanding of place value and length. They will be able to solve problems involving addition and subtraction as well as being able to analyze attributes of two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional solids. They will also learn personal financial literacy.

Grade 2

Students will develop proficiency in the use of place values within the base-10 numeration system. They will be able to use place values and properties of operations to solve problems involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000. They will be introduced to early fraction concepts, multiplication and division, number patterns, and algebra. They will apply their knowledge of two-dimensional solids to solve problems and will also learn personal financial literacy.

Grade 3

Students will develop an understanding and application of place values and properties of operations to solve problems involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1,000 as well as learn to solve multiplication and division problems within 100. They will develop an understanding of fractions as numbers, equivalent fractions, patterns, equations, and personal financial literacy. They will be able to describe characteristics of two-dimensional and three-dimensional geometric figures.

Grade 4

Students will develop fluency with efficient use of the four arithmetic operations on whole numbers as well as adding and subtracting decimals and fractions. They will be introduced to lines, angles, and shapes. They will also learn personal financial literacy.

Grade 5

Students will develop an understanding of and fluency with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions and decimals. They will understand and generate expressions and equations to solve problems. They will be able to represent and solve problems with perimeter, area, and volume. They will learn to organize, represent, and interpret sets of data. Place value, adding and subtracting of fractions, and two-dimensional shapes will also be covered. They will learn personal financial literacy.
