6th - 8thGrade 6: Contemporary World Cultures
Students will learn about historical events, latitude and longitude, limited and unlimited governments, and the relationship among individual rights, responsibilities, duties, and freedoms in societies with representative governments. They will learn about different cultures, the relationship that exists between the arts and the societies in which they are produced, and the relationship among religion, philosophy, and culture. They will also be able to communicate in oral, visual, and written forms as well as use problem solving and decision making skills, working independently and with others, in a variety of settings.
Grade 7: Texas History
Students will learn about Mexican National Era, the Texas Revolution, the Civil War, the Texas economy, and the basic principles reflected in the Texas Constitution. They will learn about concept of diversity within unity in Texas, the impact of scientific discoveries and technological innovations, and the influence of science and technology on contemporary societies. They will also be able to communicate in oral, visual, and written forms as well as use problem solving and decision making skills, working independently and with others, in a variety of settings.
Grade 8: U.S. History: Colonization–Reconstruction
Students will learn about the foundations of representative government, the westward expansion, the physical characteristics of North America, and the Industrial Revolution. They will learn about the free enterprise system, the process of changing the U.S. Constitution, the impact of landmark Supreme Court cases, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens of the United States. They will also learn about the major reform movements of the 19th century, the impact of religion, and the impact of science and technology on the economic development of the United States. They will also be able to communicate in oral, visual, and written forms as well as use problem solving and decision making skills, working independently and with.others, in a variety of settings.
