Tarbiyah
Teachers & Parents: Essential Partners in Tarbiyah
Character Building at the Academy
What is Tarbiyah?
Tarbiyah is an Arabic word that linguistically means: increase, nurture, rear, growth, or loftiness. Tarbiyah means the development and the training of people in various aspects. In this regard, the word tarbiyah refers to the systematic development and the training of children. The tarbiyah process, including spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and physical aspects, aims to put Muslims on the path of constant self-purification, self-correction, and self-development. Also, it will instill in them the passion for truth, righteousness, and justice.
We hope to achieve our tarbiyah goals as we encourage students to become moral individuals. Children become moral individuals through understanding, observing and doing.
Teachers are Essential Partners in Tarbiyah
Teachers at the Academy are expected to partner with parents to help integrate Islamic values during the school day. The Academy works to train and empower teachers to incorporate Islamic values in their lessons and implement character building elements in their lesson plans. Staff model themes on campus through announcements – assemblies – bulletin boards – forums and banners. All this is done in an effort to have students apply good character and tarbiyah in their own lives.
Ultimate Goal
The ultimate goal of moral values education is to provide a structured and supervised opportunity for students to make morally correct choices and decisions on their own. That is how they will continue to develop their aptitude for good decision making and sense of responsibility.
Tarbiyah Education
The field of Islamic values and tarbiyah education is the primary target to secure our children’s futures as practicing Muslims. The values, attitudes, and skills that our Muslim children learn today will indeed shape and form their character as future adults and community leaders late in life. Through the tarbiyah practices and modeling of Islamic ideals, we will be able to produce Muslims who will balance in their thinking; well-rooted Islamically well trained morally, and well prepared intellectually to secure a righteous life and be future leaders insh’Allah. The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence and character are the goal of true education.
